Velva Jean Glowacki

On January 29, 2020, Velva Jean Glowacki handed her worries to the Lord and went peacefully to rest with her heavenly family.

Velva Jean was born on April 17, 1941 to Sarah and Emmett W. Emerick, Sr. in Lansing, Michigan, where she graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1959.

She was predeceased by her parents Emmett and Sarah, her step-father John Belen, her brothers Curtis William Emerick and Emmett William “Bill” Emerick, Jr., sister-in-law Jamie Emerick, nephew Dan Emerick and niece Mary Jennifer (Emerick) VanSumeren.

Velva Jean was a dedicated mother and loving grandmother. Her surviving loved ones include her sons Christopher D. Glowacki and Brian D. (Jeanette) Glowacki, daughters Darlene Marie Stadt and MaryEllen (Joe) Brandl, Grandchildren Amy Lynne (James) Parsons, Danielle Marie (Margie) Farber, Timothy James “T.J.” Stadt and Tyler Allen Stadt, Great Grandchildren,  Noah Lee (Kayleen) Russell, Madeleine Nicole Daehn, Kade Marie Farber, Lukus James Farber and Annabelle Grace Parsons, Great-great Granddaughter Naydene Maleigh Russell, Sister Sally Jo (Merle) Braun, nieces Michele (Larry) Luttig, Tracy (Mike) Schmidt and Rebecca “Becky” Foster, nephews Matt (Peggy) Braun, Jason (Cassie) Braun and Steve Emerick, special cousins along with their families.

As well as raising her own four children, Velva Jean provided exceptional daycare for other children. She enjoyed rummage sales, where she would purchase many clothes and childrens essentials to give to the children and their mothers. She always ensured that every child who crossed her threshold was safe, healthy and happy.

Although she was a self-proclaimed non-chef, she made many batches of delicious monster cookies to share with family and friends. Crocheting baby blankets, Christmas stockings and reading Danielle Steele novels were some of her favorite pastimes. She loved to play Bingo and occasionally tried her luck on the slot machines. As a teenager she was an avid roller-skater and as an adult she enjoyed dancing to country music. She had fond memories of listening to live bands while strolling the beaches in Florida. Most of all she treasured her children and embraced every moment with them.

A special thank you goes out to her many loving caregivers and special caregiver and friend Shelly Hillard at Lake Woods Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, also Hospice of Michigan, thank you very much.

Velva Jean will be remembered fondly for her unselfish devotion to others.

With love and gratitude to you Velva Jean for giving the world 4 wonderful childhood friends. Your smile and gentle laughter is continued through MaryEllen, Darlene,Chris and Brian and thier children. We see your kindness in them. Your family and our family, trading food, cabbage rolls for tortillas… hot straight off the stove! Oh, those were the days. Family, neighbors, faith. Thats what life is about. We could count on you for a cup of sugar and an egg to spare. We will always love you.
    Mi familia, Su familia.
    Our deepest condolences,
    The Franco Family
