Sheila Owens Rowell “Keyla”

Sheila “Keyla” Owens Rowell was born on February 18, 1959 in St. Louis, Missouri.  She was the daughter of the late Norma Jean Owens and the late Estelle Owens. Sheila was a graduate of Muskegon High School, Class of 1977.  Sheila accepted Christ at an early age and later in life became a member of Holy Trinity Church of God under the leadership of Bishop Nathaniel Wells.  Sheila served over 10 years in the United States military services, including the Army and the Navy Reserves, until her medical retirement.  She was an avid reader and educator, author, freelance writer, and fashion designer.  Sheila’s love for education earned her dual master’s degrees in Instructional Technology and Education, and ultimately a Doctorate Degree in Education from Liberty University.  She was an Adjunct Professor at Central Texas College where she taught English composition courses. Sheila also worked as a substitute teacher for Muskegon County and Muskegon Community College, all while becoming a foster parent.

Sheila was a beautiful person inside and out.  Her smile and spirit lit up a room.  She was the one person in the family who acknowledged everyone’s birthday and accomplishments. Sheila was always willing to help, and if she couldn’t help, she pointed you in the right direction.  She always kept in touch with the family through Facebook and Facetime.  She will truly be missed.  Sheila leaves to cherish her beloved children, Darnell (Shantina) Reynolds of Valdosta, GA, Sir Aaron (Sabrina) Rowell of San Antonio, TX, Jared Rowell of Killeen, TX, Daren Rowell of Killeen, TX; grandchildren, Dakarai Reynolds, Chloe Reynolds, Leyah Reynolds, Jakaria Harrison, Za’Miere Foster, La’Quarius Harrison, Alex Daniel Krauskopf, Antoine Donovan Rowell; brothers, James M. Owens, Kevin C. (Jane) Owens, Danny (Janet) Owens; sisters, Marilyn Simmons, Wynetta (Jimmy) Ledell, Evelyn (Paul) Owens, and Patrice (Cortez) Branch all of St. Louis, Missouri; former husband and friend, Aaron Rowell.   Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her grandmother, Lucy Hayes.

To Sheila’s four sons and family, I am extremely saddened to hear of Sheila’s passing. Sheila was my grandchildren’s godmother, mentor to my daughter, and my friend! I will cherish the warm loving memories of you forever, e.g. the crystal bowl you sent me from Germany, the last outfit we traded, & Sir Aaron crying “I want Mickey D’s”. I am also praying God’s peace, comfort, and stregnth for all of your love ones….Thank you for sharing your journey with us!!!!! “PEACE”
