Ronald L. Canter

Ronald Lee Canter, 90, of Muskegon, MI passed away February 25, 2018 surrounded by his family. Ron was born in Grand Rapids on September 25, 1927 into the loving arms of Orville and Ella Canter.

Ronald was raised on a farm in Oceana County and graduated from Hart High School. He married the love of his life Helen Hart on April 19, 1946 and they were blessed with three children.

As a young man, Ron worked at Continental Motors and Brunswick. He began his trucking career at Darling Freight.  Ron shared many stories of his travels as a long-haul trucker.  His wealth of mechanical experience enabled him to fix any breakdown and make it through any blizzard.  Ron always stopped to help anyone needing assistance on the road.

Ronald is survived by his wife Helen and three children, Michael (Darma) Canter, Karen (Mark) Ford, and Polly Wesley (Dan Jordan). Ron was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved spending time with his family.

Ron’s family is very grateful for the loving care provided by the staff at Sanctuary at the Oaks, our friend Gisela, and Harbor Hospice of Muskegon.  A family celebration of Ronald’s life will be held in late summer.

The “garden” at The Oaks sure will miss Ron and his happy go lucky attitude! Absolutely loved that we were able to have a beautiful service in the place he called home! It was perfect! All my love to Helen, Polly and Karen…three of the most devoted, loving woman I’ve met in my 14 years at Sanctuary At The Oaks!

I may have only known him ever so briefly, but it is clear to me how deeply he was loved. It appears to me that one of his legacies is that of a genuinely kind and loving family. The way Helen talks about him speaks to his prime example of a good and honorable man.
May the peace of Jesus fill your family.

My sincere condolences to the whole family. It was a blessing just to meet such a wonderful man.
    Wrapping you all with love.
