Kenneth H. Mietzner

Kenneth H. Mietzner went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2020, at age 86. Kenneth was born in Shumway, Illinois in December of 1933 to parents George W. and Frieda Mietzner. On June 27, 1959, Kenneth married Claire Labonte and recently celebrated 61 years of marriage.

Kenneth proudly served in the Navy for 20 years. His military career included: Boot Camp in Great Lakes, IL, Presidential Honor Guard in Wash. D.C., Seabee training in Port Hueneme, CA and CHB2 in Guam. Upon re-enlistment he traveled to Malta, Rhode Island, Deep Freeze, Antarctica, MCB4 Gitmo Bay, Cuba, Newfoundland, Cornanda, CA, Danang, Vietnam, Gulfport, MS and Phu Bai, Vietnam. He attended Instructor school in Newport, RI and Naval Schools Command in Davisville RI. Kenneth retired, from the Navy, in September of 1971 as Chief Petty Officer. Ken then joined the USPS serving as Driver Training Instructor, in Providence, RI up to his time of retirement in 1992.

Kenneth attended Rhode Island College under GI Bill and graduated in 1980 with a BS degree in Industrial Technology. In his subsequent years of retirement, he enjoyed bowling and golf. He was a member of the Fifth Reformed Church, Muskegon, where he enjoyed teaching Bible classes and Sunday school. Kenneth was also a life member of VFW Post 8846.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Claire (Labonte), and his daughter Rhonda McLoughlin (Mark). Siblings: Frederick (Jeanne) of AZ, June Timm (Richard) of IL, Glen of TX, Freeman (Nancy) of IL, Nancy of IL, Lola Parbs of TX, Lloyd (Lynn) of IA and Lois of TX. Grandchildren: David Ogren, Jr (Sherry), Emily Goldberg (Brad) and Thomas Harrington. Great-grandchildren Brayden and Miles Goldberg. Megan Richardson and Tori Wright (children of David Jr. and Sherry Ogren). Great-great grandchild, Creedance Richardson. Extended family David Ogren Sr. (son-in-law) and his wife Shelly Ogren. Kenneth is preceded by his parents George W. and Frieda Mietzner, daughter, Gretchen Ogren and brother, Maurice.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2020, at Fifth Reform Church, in Muskegon. Calling hours will be held 10-11am and will be immediately followed by service.  The family would also like to thank Memorial Hospice.
