Dale E. Horton
Dale E. Horton, age 86, passed away December 7, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hesperia, MI October 24, 1932 to Albert and Alice Horton. He grew up in Muskegon and graduated from Muskegon High School. After serving in the U.S. Air Force as a GCA and Air Traffic Tower Controller he returned to Muskegon and became an entrepreneur with over 50 years in the car business. Along with his partner, Gene Cuthrell, Dale opened and operated Seaway Motors, which had several locations in Muskegon throughout the years. Later, he opened Kwik Way Food Mart on the corner of Spring and Muskegon. Ultimately, he returned to the car business opening M120 Auto Sales on Holton Rd. in North Muskegon. Dale spent many summers boating on the Great Lakes, his favorite stop, Beaver Island. He also became an avid fisherman winning trophies in local tournaments. In his later years he took up furniture restoration. Dale could design, build, or repair just about anything. Most of all, Dale loved his family and his home where he hosted many birthday parties, graduation parties, weddings, and neighborhood gatherings. He loved watching his children playing sports, performing in school plays, and playing drums in a local band. He took great pleasure in splashing with the grandchildren in the pool or watching as they would reel in a giant catfish at the end of the dock. Dale had many close friends and enjoyed traveling and spending time with them. To Dale, if you were a friend you were family. Dale loved life, he was a gentleman and a mentor, always there to stand beside you. He is survived by his loving wife and companion of 35 years, Sharon Horton, his sons Ryan (Cheryl) Horton, Terry Horton, Scott Schulte, Christopher Schulte, daughter Toni Schulte-Kussmaul, ten grandchildren, and his sister June (Larry Coolman) Williamson. Family and Friends are invited to attend a celebration of Dale’s life at the Spring Lake Holiday Inn, 940 W. Savidge, Saturday Jan. 26, 2019 from 1PM – 4PM. Donations in honor of Dale can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
