Daniel “Dan” Stephen VanAlstine, 33, of Muskegon, Michigan, whose remains were returned to his family on April 13, 2017, will now rest in peace.

Daniel was born in Muskegon, Michigan on November 15, 1983. He had a laugh that his family and friends will never forget. He was thought of as the goofy guy who loved gaming and random one-liners, like “Oh snap” and “Tastes like chicken.” Dan was a loving son, uncle, brother and friend, and he will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Dan is survived by his Mother, Suzanne Charity of Muskegon, Michigan; his three Sisters, Susan Treptow of Muskegon, Michigan (with husband Steven Treptow and their children, Jade and Adrian); Melissa Loss of Muskegon, Michigan (with husband Carl Loss and their children, Joseph, Collin, Bryan, Logan and Lexie); and Chantilly Patiño of Harlingen, Texas (with husband Ricardo Patiño and their children, Lilyana and Antonio); his Father Marvin “Dwaine” VanAlstine of Muskegon, Michigan; his Grandmother, JoAnne Quick of Melbourne, Florida; and his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, including his best friend of over 13 years, Jessica Eslick and family.

He is preceded in death by his angel Niece, Sonya Marie Loss; his Grandfather, Randy Quick; his Uncle, Gregory Steele; his Grandfather, Reuben Steele; his Grandfather, Marvin Russell VanAlstine; his Grandmother, Bessie "Marie" VanAlstine and his Aunt, Lee Ellen “Babe” Denny.

Daniel was deeply loved by his family and many close friends, but especially by his nieces and nephews, who could always count on their Uncle Danny to make them laugh and to hug them tight. He was a kind-hearted person, someone who never failed to help others and someone who, despite all the challenges he faced, just wanted to make people laugh.

Online memorial and cremation has been provided by Shoreline Memorial Services.

A memorial service and celebration of Dan's life will take place at Fruitport Christian Reformed Church, who have graciously offered to host and sponsor the service in his memory. The service will be officiated by Pastor John Huyser. Please join us on Saturday, April 29th at 1:30 pm at 3520 E. Pontaluna Rd.

We invite family and friends to share their memories and inspirational stories of how Dan touched their lives. We also invite you to bring photos of Dan to be displayed during the service. Photos will be returned at the end of service. We thank you for your support and love. We hope to see you there!
