Obituary

Julian John Kinnucan, age 75, rose with the sunrise to heaven on March 23, 2017. Born to John and Julia Kinnucan in Muskegon on June 19th, 1941, “Nuck” or “Knute” or “Butch” as he was affectionately known, began a life full of desire to help others. Except for his love for his family, his passion for service to the City of Norton Shores could not be matched. As a public servant for almost half his life, his passion began in 1966 as a part of the 15th class of the Norton Shores Fire Department, obtaining the rank of Lieutenant and volunteering until 1978. His service grew in 1968 when he joined the City’s Department of Public Works, where he is most remembered for his tireless work on the infrastructure of the City, and where he rose to and retired in 1999 from the position of Streets Division Supervisor.

The glue to his life was the talents he shared with the world. He was an excellent woodworker, which included intricate carvings, meticulous furniture making, and unique modern art sculpting. His creativity also included writing, poetry, and drawing arts. He also considered himself an artist in practice of fishing when time and health allowed.

His greatest joys, however, were found in his family and the Lord. He was so proud of watching his children and grandchildren become the people they now are. Sharing in his joy and faith, and always by his side, was his wife Shirley. Although their paths did not come together until later in their lives, their love, time, and testament to God spent together were never wasted and enjoyed to the fullest. Along with Shirley, he is survived by his brothers, Jack (Nola) Kinnucan, and Jerry (Lorraine) Kinnucan; sisters, Janet (Joseph) Novak, Jean (Dan) Wimmer, and Jillean (George) Race; children, Michelle Kinnucan, Lisa (Tom) Mrizek, Matthew (Pam) Kinnucan, Tina Lutman, Joseph (Sherry) Kinnucan, and Shea (Amanda) Rabidoux; grandchildren Lindsay, Nick, Juliet, Bill, Benjamin, Noah, Emma K., Ila, Emma T., Madison, Atom, Chevy, and Kameryn; great-grandchildren Amelia and Dylan; several nieces and nephews, fur buddy Casey, and many others near and dear to his heart. He was preceded in death by both his parents and fur buddies Pudge and Bear.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2017 at Family Bible Church located at 1256 West Broadway in Roosevelt Park, with Pastor Terry Fulk officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to Pound Buddies.
