Doris E. Ahlstedt, age 97 was homeward bound on March 10, 2017, from Ludington Woods in Ludington. Doris was born on January 4, 1920 in Rockford, Michigan. She completed high school at age 16 and received her teaching degree from Michigan State University at the age of 20. She moved to Whitehall in 1940 to accept her first teaching position. There, she met and married her husband Jim Ahlstedt in June, 1944, spending sixty-seven loving and happy years together. Jim passed in 2011. Doris and Jim built a home in North Muskegon in 1951, moving there from Whitehall, and owned three homes in North Muskegon during their life time. Doris and Jim both retired on the same day; Doris retired from North Muskegon Public Schools in 1980. Doris was very active and a member of Forest Park Covenant Church and served various church ministries including “Senior High League” primarily from 1954 to 1979, and has remained a member there until her passing. She was always and without exception kind, humble, gentle and caring to everyone who knew her, and left many lifelong friends, many of whom have also gone on to glory. Doris was also known for her beautiful flower gardens she tended for nearly forty years at Doris and Jim’s home on Muskegon Lake. Doris is survived by her son Jim (Christine) Ahlstedt of Ludington, a daughter Linda Ahlstedt of North Muskegon and Florida, her sister, Edna Norman of Rockford, sisters in law Jane Tiffen and Doris “Dodie” Ahlstedt, both of Illinois, along with nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM followed by a service at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Forest Park Covenant Church located at 3815 Henry Street in Muskegon.
