Dr. Donald Frans Larson, age 82 years, was received into the loving arms of his Savior on March 9, 2016. He was born one of five siblings to John and Hilda (Frans) Larson, of Manistique, Michigan. He is survived by his wife Valerie E. (Willertz) Larson of Muskegon, to whom he was married for 54 years and with whom he successfully raised four children.

A member of St. Mark's Lutheran since their arrival here, Don and his wife and family were long members of Guardian Lutheran Church in Dearborn, MI, where their children also attended parochial school, and where cherished lifelong friendships were forged. Don, a general surgeon, practiced medicine in the metro Detroit area most of his professional career, and in retirement served a few years on the board of Lutheran Homes of Michigan. During welcome vacation times, he enjoyed returning to the U.P. for deer hunting, fishing, and exploring the northern woods with his family while searching for the mystic wild blueberry. A probing intellect kept Don ever reading, especially in areas of scientific and historical interest. He played golf and as a spectator followed baseball and football, particularly when alma mater U of M held the field. And he loved classical music, especially the symphonic and choral works of Beethoven.

Doc Larson's real commitment was to his faith, and family, and making sure his children were trained up in the knowledge and love of Christ Jesus. He is survived by his familial legacy who will deeply miss him--- his daughter Elise (Paul) Calhoon, daughter Elaine (John) Wickstrom, son Erlund (Jane) Larson and daughter Erica (Scott) Faith. Six grandchildren resulted from their marriages: Monica and Evelyn (Calhoon), John and Linnea (Larson), and Elijah and Michaela (Faith)-- as well as a new great-grandchild, Vincent James (to Monica and Josh Lomas). Don was preceded in death by his siblings Charles, Paul, and Robert; yet is survived by his sister Elaine Lust, of Apopka, FL.

A service of Christian remembrance and celebration of Don's life will be held Saturday, March 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Pr. Mark E. Gilson officiating. Visitation is just prior, beginning at 10 a.m. Memorial considerations may be directed to Harbor Hospice, Lelia and Cyrus Poppen Residence, 1050 W.
