ObituaryRobert Mahlon Rickert, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. He was born in Grand Haven on October 6, 1930 to Arthur and Cecelia (Klika) Rickert.
Robert and Beverly McQueen married on September 3, 1955 in Muskegon. They opened their own business “Rickert’s Blacktopping” in 1969 and years later incorporated to “Rickert’s Trucking Inc.” The business closed in 2001.
Robert was a hard worker all of his life and loved to fish and hunt in Canada, Alabama and on Drummond Island. His father died when Robert was a teenager and he had to quit school to help run the family farm and riding stable. He also worked at a fish factory. Robert served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beverly; children, Maria Gauthier of Muskegon, Robert A. Rickert of Fountain, Floyd J. Rickert of Grandville and Gerald E. Rickert of Kalamazoo; seven grandchildren, KaSondra Holland of Tucson, AZ, April Fairchild and Floyd J. Rickert Jr., both of Muskegon, Carolann Rickert of Ludington, Naveda Rickert, Zane Rickert and Sarah Rickert, all of Kalamazoo; seven great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Patricia Washburn of Baldwin; many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his siblings, Ronald Rickert, Stewart Rickert and Lorraine Perlesnik.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled at this time.
