Penelope (Penny) Diane Reed, of Muskegon, MI passed away October 22, 2015. Penny was born in Chicago, Ill, October 18, 1947. Penny is survived by her beloved daughter Molly, Granddaughter Sofia, her mother Dorothy Jeanine Reed of Muskegon; and three brothers, Kip Reed of Lakeland Florida, Richard Reed of Laingsburg, MI and Michael Reed of Cleveland, TN. Predeceased is her beloved father, John B. Reed.

Penny loved family and especially being a mother to Molly and Grandmother to Sofia. A devoted and loving daughter, she cared and supported her mother and father in every way. Penny spread her joy and caring across the nation to all the extended family.

Penny lived a life of service to her family, friends and the community, all while helping those around her to have fun. Her twinkling eyes let you know you were about to have fun, grow, and get something done. Her circle of friends was large, and among other groups, she enjoyed attending the Viking Club meetings.

As a Speech and Hearing Special Education teacher with the Muskegon School System and in private practice, she aided thousands of students and adults. She fought to improve the diagnoses and techniques to improve those troubled with hearing and speech issues. She was a member of the Muskegon Speech and Hearing Center of Muskegon for twenty-five years, serving as President several times. Penny graduated from St. Joe, MI High School and earned a Master’s Degree from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI. Penny’s students and clients adored and respected her.

Penny embraced her family heritage and was a devoted member of the Glen Erin Piper Band and the Lochanside Highlanders Pipe Band. She attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Muskegon.
